Life’s better with a soundtrack
Music has always been an influential part of my life and I wouldn’t change it for the world. To me, music is a realm that allows for further exploration of stories, emotions and themes. I was lucky enough to get to learn piano and cello during school, and I still recreationally play when I can. I also got the chance to develop my composition and production skills with my popular music and technology major at UQ. I’ve now successfully composed and produced multiple tracks through Ableton Live! Let’s check them out…
The Music.
Do Not Yield
My final major production project, ‘Do Not Yield’, is inspired by the book series Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. This composition specifically tells the story of Aelin’s (the main character) capture, torture and escape in “Kingdom of Ash” (the final book in the series).
The piece is split into three sections: The Deception, The Torture, and The Escape. The piece begins with a deceptive illusion of a peaceful glen, which falls into a grim reality of torture. At her weakest, Aelin is ready to give in, however, the voice of her mother calls to her: “You do not yield.” This becomes a mantra for Aelin’s escape. She manages to fight against her captor’s hordes and escape to the forest, where her companions are waiting.
Here The Rise
This piece was the first major production project I got to create during my studies at UQ! This piece takes influence from game soundtracks - with Halo (Salvatori & O’Donnell), Skyrim (Jeremy Soule) and Elder Scrolls Online (Brad Derrick) being the main influences.
I got to explore how to utilise MIDI instruments to augment their sound, as well as audio recording and audio manipulation.
