On a personal level, I’m an artistic soul who strives to throw colour into her everyday life. From curating playlist for specific moods to doodling on to-do lists, I thrive on creative freedom and possibility.
In a professional sense, I am a User Experience Designer with a passion for incorporating the arts and design into STEM settings to create greater user experiences and provoke emotional, empathetic connections between human-to-human and human-to-machine.
As a User Experience Designer, I spend a lot of time observing and investigating why and how. Why do users interact with technology this way? How does anyone navigate this poorly designed website? How can I incorporate design thinking into my daily life? Why won’t my code run the way I so politely asked it to? Some are harder to answer than others, but that’s the fun of the job; Discovering questions and problems, searching for solutions, finding a multitude of answers, and realising you’re left with more questions than you started with. The constant pull of exploration and deeper analysis draws me into a pool that I could swim in for hours without getting cold.

Alongside my Bachelor of IT, I studied a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Film & Television Studies/Popular Music & Technology. Through this degree, I developed a much stronger appreciation for the creative arts and how they might influence life and how we interact with technology. I’ve written countless film essays and spent hours dissecting film scenes. I’ve had the opportunity to compose, perform and produce music through new digital music technologies. I found myself using ideas and skills I discovered during those courses in my IT projects – it was refreshing. These majors, despite possibly being considered a “waste of time” compared to an IT degree, have been greatly beneficial to how I approach my work in User Experience and Design.
I’ve always had a strong belief that life cannot thrive without the arts. It is human to create and live within an artistic world; Even if it’s hidden behind statistics and logic, artistic influence will still exist. My passion is to always let arts and STEM coexist in my life and the work I make. I persist in incorporating design thinking into how I live – how I analyse, how I create, how I experience – and I strive to find ways to make others mindful of this theory.
